CocoaPink Ghost Train of Gettysburg
Gun powder, vanilla, pipe tobacco, overgrown grass, cold dirt, rusted metal, blackberries, oak trees.
I’m not usually big on atmospheric scents, but I’ve been looking for a nice berry scent and this one was recommend to me. The tobacco is a concern however, since it can turn into a gross ashtray smell on me.
In the bottle: Fruity! Much fruitier than I expected, actually. Slightly artificial, but not bad.
On the skin: Once applied, the blackberries become softer and much more realistic. They’re sweet, but not overly so. I’m also getting a musky vanilla alongside the berries. In the back, I get just a touch of something earthy. The gunpowder adds a little kick of spice. I’m also very happy that the tobacco doesn’t turn into an ash tray on my skin! Overall, this is a really interesting unisex scent.
TL;DR: Blackberries, vanilla musk, and just a hint of earth and spice. Really cool. 4/5.
BPAL Spinning on Graves
Dorian and lavender mist, crushed grass, cypress leaf, and a drop of clove.
Every year, the owners of BPAL and BPTP release a set of perfumes for their daughter Lilith’s birthday. This scent was a part of the BPTP side of that collection. I knew I had a to try it once I saw the notes, since I love the scent Dorian as well as lavender and clove and cypress. This scent can be purchased on the BPTP website for $24 US.
In the bottle: Sugary herbal lavender with green elements! I’m also getting a hint of clove for the spice. It’s really fresh and beautiful.
On the skin: That sweet, herbal lavender is still the most prominent alongside the green notes that lend an almost wet feel to it, like morning dew on a leaf. The Dorian comes out more on the skin, and the black tea and lemon from that are just perfect alongside the green and lavender. It conjures up the image of a misty morning at an old Victorian mansion. I’m so glad I bought a bottle of this!
TL;DR: Sweetened herbal lavender with softly wet greenery and Dorian. Misty and calming. 5/5.
BPAL Strawberry Moon 2017
Wild strawberries, strawberry flower, vanilla-infused sugar, early summer grasses, purple coneflower, white sage, and milky dandelion sap.
Every month, BPAL does an event called Lunacy. It occurs right around the full moon and it is accompanied by a monthly scent. Every month has a different kind of “moon” according to Native American tradition, and June is the Strawberry Moon. Strawberry Moon scents are considered to be some of the best, and 2017’s is apparently really great. I love a nice strawberry scent, so I was happy to try a sample of this. This scent is no longer available.
In the bottle: Very, very strawberry with a touch of greenery in the background. Not really surprising honestly, but the strawberry note is more artificial than expected. It’s a totally different strawberry from the one in Diligent Instruction and Enveloped in Silk hair gloss.
On the skin: It does get less artificial once it’s been applied, but it is still quite sweet thanks to the vanilla-infused sugar. The summer grass and dandelion are a lovely foil to the sweetness and they provide a pretty green note. It’s perfect for summer and it really evokes the image of strawberry picking.
TL;DR: Sugary sweet strawberries with summer greenery. 4/5.
